Creative paste
In creative mode in your own world, you don’t have to build block by block. Paste puts the whole placement into the world as its ghost shows it, and Undo paste takes the last paste back.
Where paste works
Section titled “Where paste works”Paste and Undo paste only work when both are true:
- you are in creative mode
- you play your own single-player world, also when you have opened it to LAN
They don’t work on servers, as a guest in someone else’s LAN world, or in survival, adventure or spectator mode. There, the wheel shows no Paste segment.
Pasting
Section titled “Pasting”- Place the schematic and lock it where you want it.
- Hold the remote and open the placement wheel (V).
- Pick Paste. It sits after Materials.
- Pick a mode. The paste starts and the wheel closes.
Press Esc or click the centre of the wheel to close it without pasting.
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Replace all | Sets every position to the planned block, air included. The box matches the plan afterwards. |
| Only into air | Places blocks only where the world has air or something replaceable such as grass or water. Nothing else changes. |
| Skip air | Places every planned block and replaces what is there, but leaves the world alone where the plan has air. |
For example, where the plan has air and the world has dirt, Replace all removes the dirt and Skip air keeps it. Where the plan has oak planks and the world has stone, Only into air keeps the stone.
What a paste places
Section titled “What a paste places”- The placement as its ghost shows it: rotated, mirrored and with your material swaps.
- All of it, also layers you have hidden.
- Container contents and other block data from the schematic. A chest with 5 diamonds in the schematic holds 5 diamonds after the paste.
- Blocks exactly as planned. Sand and gravel don’t fall, water and lava don’t flow, and redstone keeps its planned power while the paste runs. Afterwards the world behaves normally again.
It leaves out:
- blocks the game doesn’t know, for example from a mod you haven’t installed. The world stays as it was there.
- structure voids. The world stays as it was there too.
- entities such as item frames and armor stands.
Large pastes run over several ticks so the game keeps running. The overlay shows the progress, and when it is done the action bar says how many blocks changed. Only one paste or undo runs at a time: while one runs, Paste and Undo paste are greyed out.
If pasting the build completes it, the placement finishes and is removed, as when you build it by hand.
Undo paste
Section titled “Undo paste”After a paste, the wheel shows Undo paste as its last segment, also with no placement selected. Pick it to put back everything the last paste changed, including chest contents it replaced.
- Only the last paste can be undone. A new paste replaces it, and once you undo, Undo paste is gone.
- Leaving the world forgets the paste. When you join again, there is nothing to undo.
- If leaving the world stops a paste halfway, what it placed so far stays.
- If the paste finished and removed your placement, Undo paste also brings the placement back: same position, swaps and layers, locked and selected.
