Import and export

Heavymatica reads the schematic files you already have, so switching costs nothing. Imported files are copied into your library and the originals stay where they are. Export writes an entry back out as a file that other tools can open.

Format File Made by
Litematica .litematic Litematica, and Heavymatica’s own captures
Sponge schematic, versions 2 and 3 .schem WorldEdit and other tools
Vanilla structure .nbt Structure blocks

Heavymatica looks at what is inside the file, not at its name. A Sponge schematic named castle.nbt is still read as a Sponge schematic.

Good to know:

  • Modded blocks are kept as they are. If you don’t have the mod, they show as unknown blocks. See Materials.
  • Entities such as item frames and armor stands are left out.
  • Old files from earlier Minecraft versions work. Their blocks are upgraded when you use them, the way the game upgrades old worlds. Files that don’t say which version they come from are used as they are.
  • Structure files with several palettes use the first one.

A .litematic file can have several regions. Heavymatica reads them as one schematic covering all regions. Where regions overlap, the region listed later in the file wins. The gaps between regions are left empty: they don’t change the world and don’t count as blocks. Air saved inside a region stays air.

A file is rejected when it is:

  • larger than 16 MiB
  • too large when unpacked
  • wider than 1024 blocks on any side
  • more than 16,777,216 blocks in all
  • damaged, for example cut off or with broken block data

A rejected file leaves your library unchanged, and the file itself is never touched.

Open the library (H) and drag schematic files from your file browser onto it. Each file becomes its own entry. Drop several at once to import them all. Files that can’t be imported are reported with the reason, for example not a schematic file or the file is damaged.

The import screen accepts dropped files too, anywhere on the screen.

  1. Open the library and choose Import.
  2. The import screen lists the schematic files in your game directory’s schematics folder, where Litematica keeps its files, and in heavymatica/import/, including subfolders. Each file shows its folder, format and size.
  3. Tick the files you want.
  4. Choose Import selected.

Open folder opens the schematics folder in your file browser, and creates it first if it doesn’t exist yet.

When your library is empty, it opens on the import screen right away, with a short explanation of how to import or capture your first schematic.

An imported file becomes a local entry, marked Local only: not uploaded to the cloud. It works without signing in. It keeps its own copy of the file, so you can move or delete the original and the entry still works. A thumbnail is made for it when you import it.

Deleting a local entry removes it from your library only. The file you imported it from is not touched.

If a file is identical to an entry you already have, Heavymatica tells you which one, for example It matches your cloud schematic "Barn" version 2. Choose Skip or Import anyway.

Signed in, select a local entry and choose Upload, as a new schematic or as a new version of one of your cloud schematics. A thumbnail is attached to the new version. If the upload fails, for example because it doesn’t fit your storage quota, the entry stays local. See Library.

To open a schematic in Litematica, WorldEdit or another tool, export it.

  1. Open the library and select the entry. For a cloud schematic, pick the version you want.
  2. Choose Export in the details.

The file is written to your game directory’s schematics folder, which is .minecraft/schematics/ in a standard install. It is named after the entry, with the file’s own extension, and you are told where it went.

  • The file is written exactly as it is stored, in its own format. A version uploaded as .schem is exported as .schem, and a capture as .litematic. Old files are not upgraded on export.
  • Characters that aren’t allowed in file names are replaced. Tower: v2/final is written straight into schematics/.
  • If the file already exists, you choose: Overwrite, Keep both, which saves it as Starter Hut (2).litematic, or cancel. Nothing is written until you choose.
  • A cloud version you haven’t downloaded yet is downloaded first. Offline, Export only works for versions already in your cache. Otherwise it is disabled and says the version needs a connection.
